Lauren Batemanlauren bateman
Temple University
Chilean Universities Program, Santiago
Lauren has won a Diamond Research Scholars grant from Temple University to begin a research project starting in the summer and continuing during the fall semester. Lauren will be examining why and how traditional media sensationalized information about the 2011 student protests, while students depended on social media to help the movement grow and to engage supporters.

Austin Fann
Birmingham Southern College
Chilean Universities Program Santiago
Austin presented at the 2014 Latin American Studies Symposium. His presentation, "No to Profit": The Fight for the Reform of Education in Chile" described student-led education reform protests in Chile over the past several years. The Symposium is an annual conference focusing on issues in Latin America, and it attracts students and scholars from around the world each year.

Brian, a senior chemistry major from DePauw University, has won a full scholarship to Indiana University's PhD program in chemistry. As a chemistry major, he said it was a risk for him to study abroad and be able to finish all of his degree requirements, but that he is glad he decided to have an experience that most chemistry majors don't have. Congratulations Brian!


Tessa Maurertessa maurer
Princeton University
Chilean Universities Program, Santiago
Tessa has won a scholarship from Princeton's Program in International and Regional Studies to conduct research that will form part of her senior thesis project in civil engineering. Tessa is still developing her project, but she plans on studying problems with drainage systems or water treatment either in Santiago or a small town outside of Santiago and propose a solution to the problem. She will be returning to Santiago this summer to do her research.

Anthony also has been accepted to the Peace Corps. He will work as an English teacher and teacher trainer as part of a new Peace Corps program in Ethiopia. His first experience teaching English was in Santiago as part of the English Opens Doors program. He will be there for 27 months.
